The recommended amount of sleep a person should get is between 7-9 hours per night, but some of us may need some help drifting off! Sleep is an important part of our daily routine, a healthy sleeping routine can improve our mental health as well as our physical health! Cumulus Beds understands the importance of sleep and having the perfect night’s rest, so we have composed a routine, to get you off to sleep and ready for the next day.

Taking A Bath/Shower

Taking the perfect candlelit bath with some calming bath products, such as lavender, or washing in the shower with lavender products is perfect for getting ready for bed. Camomile is also known to help with sleep. It is a great way to have some time away from your screen.

Cut The Caffeine

Caffeine is a stimulant, which means that it has stimulating effects on your body, this includes, raising your heart rate and blood pressure and even your energy levels. When drinking caffeine, it can delay your body’s natural production of melatonin, the sleeping hormone. If you reduce your caffeine intake and avoid drinking it for 4-6 hours before your bedtime, it can have a positive impact on your sleep.

Reduce Your Screen-Time

We’ve all had the notifications telling us our screen-time for the week and I’m sure we’ve all been shocked at the amount of time we spend on our screens. TVs, laptops, and phones all ommit a blue light. This blue light stimulates your brain and keeps you awake! A good way to help you unwind at night is to schedule yourself some time away from your phone. Maybe putting your phone away from your bed can stop you from checking those notifications. But if you can’t drag yourself away from your screens, installing a blue light filter can also help.

Hot Drinks

Why not have a nice, hot, caffeine-free drink before you get snuggled into bed? Herbal teas or Horlicks are the perfect way to relax and soothe your mind and body. We also suggest drinking camomile or peppermint tea, which can aid the digestion of your food.

Comfortable Environment

Ensuring your surroundings are clutter and mess-free is the first step to create a comfortable sleeping environment, as these are the most common complaints when unable to sleep. Investing some time into making your bedroom a safe and comfortable space, can help you drift off to sleep easier.
